04/08/17 - Day 5 - Nashville, TN - Broadway on a Saturday
Day 5 - Nashville, TN
First full day in town. Went running in the morning and learned there's quite a difference when you're surrounded by rolling hills. It's a little like running the last mile of the Gate river run over and over again. In the afternoon I did a little exploring on my bike and learned that this part of town is not exactly bike friendly. Note to Nashville, this isn't how sidewalks are supposed to work.

Made it down to Broadway in the evening, very busy on a Saturday

Every single bar and restaurant has a live music show. A little like Bourbon St, but with more country than generic sing along rock (e.g. Bon Jovi, Journey, etc., although I heard that stuff too). Every third group of girls was either a bachelorette party or a 21st birthday party. There were so many of them that they kept running into each other and pissing off each of the women who suddenly found out they were not going to be only center of attention for the evening. Ended up stopping at a place just off the strip to check it out. I admit, the name didn't hurt.

Nothing terribly special, though the night took a horrifying turn not long after I entered. There was a group of mid-late 20's bro stereotypes standing near the stage that I ended up next to while ordering a drink. I glanced over and noticed one bro showing the other bros what appeared to be a porn video on his phone. I thought it was an odd choice for a packed bar. Then I overheard something along the lines of "Look look! Check out what I do next!" A rapid sequence of escalating terrible thoughts suddenly sprang to mind:
1) This was a home made video
2) I just saw the package of a dude standing 2 feet away from me
3) He has no problem showing off this kind of stuff to his friends in a public setting
4) His friends are into it
5) If this isn't a big deal, what the hell would be considered over the line for these people?
I left the bar pretty much immediately afterwards. I did find a much better place with a decent country cover band and reasonable drink prices. I'll probably go back to this one again.

Is there a local university nearby? That could explain the prurient behavior. Haha.
