04/24/17 - Day 21- Bristol, TN - Appalachian Caverns & Steele Creek Park
First ever visit to underground caves / caverns. Appalachian caverns is off a country road southwest of Bristol in the town of Blountville. That day the Nascar race was running to make up for the wash out the previous day so I was the only person there to take the tour.

According to the guide, this system of caverns were used by Native Americans for shelter and ceremonial events. It was also used during the civil war by both armies as a make shift hospital because of the protection it provided and the spring fed water source.

Saw a few sleeping bats here and there

Water was gushing into the underground river due to all the recent rain.

It was a brief visit but interesting. Afterwards I went a little northwest to visit Steele Creek Park. It's a pretty fair sized park with a bike trail surrounding a small lake and several quite steep walking trails.

Another very pretty park populated with a smattering of joggers, bikers, and families. I rode the entire bike trail and scaled a couple of the walking trails up to the point where the trails were too washed out from the rain. Rain has been an unwelcome player in the past three days.

The lake spills over into small river via waterfall framed by some nice flowering trees.
