04/30/17 - Day 27 - Hanover, PA to Asbury Park, NJ
Day 27 - Hanover, PA to Asbury Park, NJ - 190 miles
1984 cumulative miles
I had one day to kill before the start date of my May sublet so I decided to stop by the Jersey Shore. I told Google to avoid tolls where possible so it routed me through the middle of Amish country. I passed at least a couple dozen horse and carriages while cutting through a bunch of little towns.
Turns out there is nothing going on until after Memorial day almost a month away. The downtown and beach area was dead as a door nail. I walked between the two areas but only found a couple of places still open for business after 9pm on a Sunday. I'm sure Jax Beach had more going on than this place.
The next day was bright and sunny inland but foggy as hell by the ocean. I had to wait several hours before I could see beyond the first few breaking waves at the beach.
I did find something to do though. There's a retro-arcade museum on the boardwalk that has dozens of classic pinball and arcade games. On a Monday afternoon I had the place nearly to myself and blew several nostalgic hours in it.
