05/29/17 - Day 57 - NYC - Lincoln Center
Quick update - this evening I visited the Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall to watch Johannes Brahms' Deutches Requiem (A German Requiem), performed by the Masterwork Festival Chorus and professional soloists, alongside Texas Tech University Chamber Orchestra. The show was a sponsored Memorial Day event so tickets were only $18 inclusive of all fees (normally $85+). This was my first time attending a symphony performance. The show was pretty impressive. I was a little confused at first by a couple of folks who came out and sat next to the conductor for about 30 minutes doing absolutely nothing, until it became evident that these were the soloists and were only there for limited portion of the program. The whole thing lasted about two hours with a 15-20 minute intermission. It was a new experience and I enjoyed it, though I think I'd prefer seeing just a musical performance next time as the soloists performance was too close to opera for which I have no interest.
