06/07/17 - Day 65 - Boston, MA - Bike Tour of Downtown
Finally had a break in the weather so took a self guided tour of the downtown area, starting with Fenway. There's not actually a lot to see when there isn't a game. You can't even get a good photo of the stadium because it's not set apart from the rest of the surroundings; it looks just like another building in an mixed commercial, residential, industrial area though plastered w/ Red Sox decorations and memorabilia. I did walk through the Red Sox team store to see if there were any decent souvenirs available, but their prices were ridiculous. Plain T shirts were $45+, a bloody drink koozie was $10. I left shaking empty handed, shaking my head.
I left Fenway and rode over the Boston Commons. It's a pretty park just on the outskirts of downtown.

From the commons I headed over the harbor. Passed a lot of nice looking row houses along the way.

The harbor area, and downtown in general is busy but nothing like New York. For one thing, it's a hell of a lot cleaner. I didn't see a pile of trash bags anywhere, whereas in NYC, everyday appears to be trash day. The roads and sidewalks were all nicer, and riding the bike wasn't nearly as white knuckle as going through midtown Manhattan. Of course, Boston has less than 10% of the population of NYC, so that makes a difference.
It was an enjoyable trip and gave me an idea of a few places to visit later.

Will- walk the Freedom Trail...I highly recommend that. Spend some time in the North End (italian area). You can just walk into a random place and have the most amazing meal and cannoli!
