Day 86 - Boston, MA to Niagara Falls, ON - 470 miles
2759 cumulative miles
Said goodbye to my Boston roommates and headed towards my next stop, Chicago. On the way I planned to meet up with some friends from Florida in Michigan for a few days. On the way to Michigan, I decided to spend the night at Niagara Falls since I was more or less in the neighborhood.

I arrived on the American side of the falls just after sunset. The falls straddle the national boarder between the US and Canada. Each country has a very different atmosphere surrounding the falls. On the US side, the area is basically a suburb of Buffalo, NY with the land and islands bordering the river and falls a national park. There a number of hotels and a few small restaurants, but it's pretty chill.
On the Canadian side, it's like someone moved Atlantic City here and built another version of Daytona Beach in the middle of it. There are skyscraper hotels, lots of casinos, bars, restaurants, video game arcades, fun houses, amusement rides, and midway attractions surrounding the falls. The Canadians also have giant spotlight arrays focused on the falls which provided a kaleidoscopic view of them at night.
I explored the American side first and stayed through a fireworks show before heading over to Canadian side where my hotel for the evening was located.

After getting past the border, I took a walk around the tourist district. It's nuts the amount of bits they have going on there.
The next morning I got out to explore the Canadian side of the falls in the daylight. I think Canada has a better selection of viewing points. They certainly have more view options, such as the boat tours, a walk though a cave behind the falls, even a zip line.
American Falls

Horseshoe Falls

Being on the boat tour did not look like a whole lot of fun.

However, I did pay to take the opportunity to a ground level and behind falls view at Horseshoe falls.
The falls are an impressive sight from a distance, but even more so up close and personal.
While down there I spied a few of the locals taking a shower.

The "behind the falls" view wasn't that spectacular as you basically just saw a wall of water at the end of a long tunnel. There was a huge line of people waiting to take a selfie in front of it. I got out of there pretty quickly.

It's a cool place to visit and I was glad I made time for it on the trip.
