08/03/17 - Day 122 - Denver, CO - South Valley Park

I ventured out on an overcast afternoon to explore on the southwest corner of the city.  South Valley Park is 909 acre county park established in 1999 with about 8mi of hiking trails.  It's relatively flat for Colorado and only about 20min from where I was staying so it was a good starter for what was likely to be a heavy hiking month.

The park is a little south of Red Rocks so the topographical feature are similar.  There were some nice vistas despite the weather.

This hike was a lot different that what I'd become accustomed to in other locations for a few reasons.  First, few trees.  Nearly all the trails on the east coast I'd hiked were completely tree covered.  Second, no biting bugs, a HUGE improvement.  Finally, it was much cooler and dryer (less humidity) even with the overcast.  I could get used to these conditions.  Hell I had to wear a light jacket - in August.  Not something I've ever done in Florida.
