08/13/17 - Day 132 - Boulder, CO

Quick Update - hiked near the the Realization Point trail head outside of Boulder and visited a few of the local breweries.  My friends and I started the morning by taking a walk up a trail that offers several views of downtown Boulder.


    
Zooming in we could get a peek at the Colorado Buffalo's stadium.


Saw another example of a Steller's Jay




In the evening we took some bikes and rode around the town of Boulder sampling wares from several breweries - quite a few good ones there.






Ran into some prairie dogs along the way.

04/08/17 - Day 5 - Nashville, TN - Broadway on a Saturday

Day 5 - Nashville, TN First full day in town.  Went running in the morning and learned there's quite a difference when you're surrounded by rolling hills.  It's a little like running the last mile of the Gate river run over and over again.  In the afternoon I did a little exploring on my bike and learned that this part of town is not exactly bike friendly.  Note to Nashville, this isn't how sidewalks are supposed to work. Made it down to Broadway in the evening, very busy on a Saturday Every single bar and restaurant has a live music show.  A little like Bourbon St, but with  more country than generic sing along rock (e.g. Bon Jovi, Journey, etc., although I heard that stuff too). Every third group of girls was either a bachelorette party or a 21st birthday party.  There were so many of them that they kept running into each other and pissing off each of the women who suddenly found out they were not going to be only center of attention for the ...

04/20/17 - Day 17 - Nashville, TN - Burgess Falls

Spent the afternoon visiting two parks east of Nashville: Burgess Falls and Edgar Evins State Parks. Burgess fall used to be a hydropower facility early in the 20th century before it was made obsolete by the larger Tennessee Valley Authority projects.  Now it's a park with a series of walking and hiking trails and three progressively larger waterfalls.  The first couple are right past the parking lot. The other falls follow a series of trails The second set of falls Come at me, bro The main event Down the river valley view from the falls observation deck On the way back I stopped by Edgar Evins Lake Saw my first chipmunk of the trip A few more trails and a look at the Center Hill dam and I headed back to town for the hockey game.

05/23/17 - Day 50 - Brooklyn - Bike trip to Prospect Park & Botantical Gardens

Took the bike out for another long trip, this time to Brooklyn to revisit Prospect Park and tour the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Since locking the replacement bike inside my car every night I've not had any additional theft issues.  Apparently breaking out auto glass is a step too far for the neighborhood thieves guild.      I started out headed east on Queens Blvd, a road I've been running on in the mornings.  It's got a dedicated bike line which is nice and you can see the Empire State building in the distance. Eventually I took a southeast turn onto Greenpoint Ave which crosses Queens into Brooklyn as it approaches the East River.  Upon reaching the river I followed Franklin St and Kent Ave along the river, passing the Willliamsburg Bridge on the way.      It took little over an hour to make it to the park.      The park was created in 1867 and encompasses 585 acres of territory.  B...
